Going to start on the log hive. Thinking of a 7 foot circumference pile. Still puzzling about what to do for a base.
perhaps cut out some soil if the ground thaws enough over next few days and back fill with some pea gravel and then build on from there. Once I fill my woodshed I will join the club and build one as well. Starr bought me some lumberjack socks so that should help. ;-)
Lumberjack socks! The best!
Mine was smaller than that. I had some 1x2s I laid out as a base.
Honestly, I don't think the base is all that critical. The bottom log wedges placed in a circle keep things pretty dry. Maybe toss some less desirable bits inside the inner circle made by first few rows of radial logs.
Damn, I didn't wear the right socks. I may have to build another one...
I want lumberjack socks and I don't even want to do any lumberjacking!
Mulch or hay for the base maybe? Maybe evergreen boughs?
re: lumberjack socks. 3 pair. 1 pair has a lumberjack complete
with beard, 2nd pair are a bunch of axes, and final
pair has lots of the original lumberjack on them - the beaver. ;-)
