All, just looking for the announcements on awardees of the 2019 new Ousa maps for schools program, or a website for same. I received email traffic from the BB group that awards are out and mappers assigned, but no list of approved projects. signed, .... 'sleepless' in linden nj (there HS O team is wondering...)

Bob, I recommend contacting the committee directly with your question. Email: YMPCommittee@orienteeringusa.org

I've been in touch with Bob on this matter, and have two questions (which I hope can be answered by someone reading this)...

1. Are the grants in the form of $$, mappers or both?

2. Are the grants only for mapping school grounds, or can they be used on nearby parks?

1. Grants are awarded that provide funding towards making the map using this program. The program includes using one of the mappers who has agreed to participate, using the agreed upon process and price structure. (Contracts, 1099s etc are involved). Grants may cover some or all of the cost of making the map.

2. It's up to the organization to propose what they think should be mapped. The committee would take the justification into consideration if the organization requested a grant.

...and not asked, but the program can be used without a grant.

Here's a copy of the initial process document. The YMP Committee has been crazy-busy with this, and I'm sure there will be some updates once we get through the first round and figure out what works. 1099s and contracts, for example. Kudos to the team for continuing to work through this.

Link did not work.

Follow-up to #1: Can the grant recipient provide their own mapper, and use the grant to pay him/her?
(I ask this because Bob thought that this was the case -- and, if not, I guess it would pretty much sink his application.)

cmpbllv:
No. The mapper needs to be part of the OUSA mapping program to receive OUSA funding. We have standards for the maps, a review process for the maps produced to ensure quality, and are responsible for tax documentation because the mappers are fulfilling a contract.

We are happy to enroll new mappers in the program at any time.

The grant recipient can provide their own mapper, however, the mapper has to register with the program in order to get funds from the grant program. Once registered as mapper (mapper does not have to commit to making other maps), the mapper will receive additional information about how payment works, but also about standard quality that will be required of a map and other details.
Bob has received an e-mail with the correct link for his mapper(s) to register with the YMP (see cmpbllv's comment above for reason), and is in communication with the YMP committee.

Take 2: Initial process document

So, does that kill Bob's application, or will the "I have a mapper" part just be ignored, and the application be evaluated on its other merits? If the former, I'm sure he could amend and resubmit.

EDIT: Just looked at the doc, and am now wondering if the aforementioned "mapper" is a field checker, drafter or both...

@GuyO - the mapper still has to register with the YMP, and does not have to commit to other maps. No resubmission needed. Bob is in communication with the committee, as was recommended by cmpbllv he should do.
