Just being your typical grandparents and doing a little parcourse. :-)
I'm always delighted to see what grandparents I know (including me) do these days that I could never imagine my grandparents doing. Just another datapoint to show physical activity and O keep us young.
But not a pleasant situation west of Santa Rosa this week. Hundreds of homeless who had established a camp along the Joe Rodota Bike Trail
were forcibly relocated all over the local area. Quite an unfortunate situation for all involved.
Sometimes I'm grateful for our frigid winters in the midwest....
Are they homeless because they are homeless, or were they sheltering after being burnt out of their homes with recent fires? And what is being done to help them recover? A sad situation for many who must be at least pleased with a mild climate.
Well my niece and family live in Sebastopol, at the west end of that trail. So I've been following the growth of that homeless encampment. The Tubbs fire burned Coffey Park and some other pretty nice areas of Santa Rosa more than two years ago; much of that damage has been rebuilt. So I don't think those homeless are locals.
Perhaps Charlie has better perspective. But as that encampment has grown, home owners have become increasingly vocal about the need for its removal. Tempers have flared. Bike commuters, families and kids could no longer use that trail safely. The city bought a couple of houses as a token gesture for low-cost housing. But ultimately their patience just ran out.
