phew, I'm thinking it will take the entire year just to get my body weight back in the reasonable range, let alone competing, I had a real bad 4 months last fall, dug myself a sizeable hole, just have to be patient; maybe, maybe I can tool around the velodrome in June since body mass doesn't hurt you on the velodrome . . . much; I'm out of breath walking about 3 flights of stairs, pitiful.

I dont know, I get out of breath climbing ONE flight of stairs...but then I'm a lot older than you, so sounds about right.

anyway, re: the bodyweight thing, last year there was a competitor who was recovering from cancer! so my question to you is, do you use the races to recover some fitness, or do you wait around for your fitness to be 'good enough' to participate?

it's a chicken and egg question . . . certainly some not too svelte old dudes in the 200 and 100, I could be persuaded! the 800 and 1500 would just be ridiculous

Yes, but the egg can bring new life, while the chicken can only lay an egg lol.

Honestly, baring my soul here, on my various runs I often think 'how can that fat guy be running that fast?' And then I realize they are likely thinking 'how can that ancient guy possibly be running as fast as me'? And then I realize fast is relative, and its best to be content with whatever one is allotted.
