In light of the current international situation, we will be releasing information later this week about the status of the event. Please stay on the lookout for our announcement and thank you for your patience!
West Point always puts on such a great event and it would be sad not to have the tradition continue. But, circumstances may dictate otherwise.
There have been gaps before. There will be gaps again.
Looks like OUSA has dictated the status, with all events through April to be cancelled.
(Puts on Board member hat): Not cancelled, but not sanctioned as NREs through the end of April. OUSA can influence clubs, but can't stop a club from holding an event. We'll work with clubs who want to reschedule NREs to the fall or next spring.
(Puts on USMA grad / event advisor hat): As with most things, USMA needs some time to let the institutional bureaucracy turn in a way most clubs may not appreciate. Add in that faculty just returned from spring break, cadets are spread far and wide and attending class digitally, and the academy has more pressing issues to figure out than the status of USMAOC's NRE, and you can probably appreciate that it may take some time for an official announcement. I've been in communication with the leaders, and they're working things out. More to follow.
(Takes hats off): I am really not a hat person. ;-)
Hat tip: next time, take off the first hat before putting on the second. Looks better that way.
Thanks for the clarification (Tori, not Feet ... though that is a valuable hat tip).
(sporting a spiffy new Comm Mgr Hat) I've also requested to be notified directly as soon as an official decision has been rendered, and will post it to all the usual OUSA channels once a decision is official.
At this rate, the next board meeting may have a hat requirement...
And when you do things by call-ins, the hats can be virtual and the stack of them can be tall.... and in the current fashion of computer games, can further be accessorised
My favorite orienteering hat photo:
IIRC they were prepping outfits for a team banquet.
I think there was also an issue with extra luggage fees, so he had to wear them all onto the plane? Not my story, but it still makes me laugh, years later.
Just saw that West Point is now shut down past March 29th ….so I would think that this event will also be shut down
I think they'll have a decision out shortly. The priority of the cadets, staff, and faculty has been to shift to dispersed learning which just started up yesterday. Based on the indicators a cancellation/postponement is highly likely.
From Governor Cuomo today:
Outdoor recreation and exercise is permitted but must be solitary. “It’s running and hiking. It’s not playing basketball with five other people. It’s not playing in the park with 10 other people and sharing a beer,” he said.
I just saw that I have a refund for the event....I have not seen that it was called off ...but must have been
Just got official word - West Point is cancelled for 2020 and will not be rescheduled. Most refunds have already been processed and they are working on a few final issues...
Yes--Those registered should already have received an email through EventRegister. A big thank-you is due to all who helped us along the way. To those who planned on attending, we apologize for the inconvenience and hope to see you next year!
