is it wise to focus on speed without a specific race to peak for?
maybe not, but I enjoy it given my mental and physical makeup...and I'm going ahead to be ready for late spring/early summer races even if they are cancelled. if they are, I will run TT's. So you could look at it as JD Phase 2 training. But its about the joy of running. True, races are generally more exciting and extract better performances from a given level of fitness, and of course, you can't post your finisher medal on facebook...oh well.
