The requirement to “stay local” didn’t mean “wandering off for five or six miles”, said Mike Bush, the police commissioner, in a news conference last week.
Well I won't feel too guilty - think I saw a man and a dog, plus a mountain biker on that run (admittedly more than I usually see on a route like that). Far more people walking up and down our road if I was to stick really close to home.
I think the rules are deliberately a little vague. Everyone's circumstances are different and everyone seems to have their own interpretation. .
The main concern here is that people don't go doing something which may put them in jeopardy and require assistance (hence bans on tramping and mountain biking). Otherwise running seems to be tolerated, and road cycling so long as you stay relatively local.
Some people seem to be struggling though - our Health Minister drove to a mountain bike park and then went off mountain biking on his own last weekend, thereby proving that stupidity isn't confined to right wing governments.
