Yeah, Nancy broke that news to me last night (she phrased it as "Who's John Prine?"). I had hoped to see him in concert a couple of years ago, but it conflicted with my trip to Jukola. The local folk music station (WUMB-FM) is playing a lot of his music today.

Although it probably doesn't make sense to anybody but me, I've long considered John Prime to be the Steve Willman of folk music.

I used to listen to John Prine in the 70-ies - I think I still have "Diamonds in the Rough" among my records.

Who would have guessed Prine's music made it to Sweden. I thought it was doing well just to seep into Laramie. And around here? I guess the song's everyone has hear are "Lake Marie" because of a local lake with the same name (at least I suppose why the song got so much local airplay) and "Angel from Montgomery" because who can't use an angel now and then.

The first song of his I ever heard was "Illegal Smile", because it was the theme song to a TV show called The Texas Wheelers. The show was considered the worst new program that season, and lasted only about three episodes. But the theme lives on.
