hopefully in this alternate reality we are not sitting through 18 poems before the actual presentations begin.

My alternate reality was 4 days of orienteering in Belair. Can't wait for the vegetation to be remapped so that we can avoid it!

Are you flying from Canberra or Sydney? Depending on traffic the drive to Canberra airport from day 3 is probably 45 minutes quicker than the drive to Sydney airport.

biddy:
We would have done canberra

There was once an orienteer named Biddy,
Waiting for presentations made her quite giddy,
She started to shout,
Her flight was in doubt,
She just wanted to get home for a quiet schooner.

Clara:
Only 17 limericks to go!!

jennycas:
Yeah, from Sydney on an Easter Monday you'd want a flight after 8pm.
(especially as Bells Line of Road is closed this weekend to deter illegal campers)

Hahah Clare. You remember it well

From the event carpark to Canberra airport would be 3hrs 15min. You would have heaps of time. It's good road all the way, the only issue would be getting stuck behind a few trucks. I've been taking about 3 hours from my place in Belconnen including time for a quick food/gas stop at Cowra.

I might talk to the rest of the organising team about ways we could make the preso run early and efficiently since it is so far from the nearest airports. I can imagine everyone wanting to clear out quickly on Monday.

Restrict poems to rhyming couplets only.

Juffy:
There once was an O event
Whose races were totally spent.
The lady named Bridget
had started to fidget.
"The car's packed and where is my gent?"
Apr 13, 2020 4:29 AM #
Juffy:
The presentations descended to tedium,
the poetry verging on odium.
The lady named Bridget,
though somewhat of a midget,
Looked quite tall on top of the podium.

Hahaha these are great... but please stop. PTSD

Pre-Covid there was an outfit which flew the Melbourne-Orange and Melbourne-Dubbo routes a few times a week from Essendon. Whether we'll see them again is anyone's guess.

Canberra's definitely closer to Gumble than Sydney is (and has much more predictable travel times on an Easter Monday afternoon), but of course has a lesser selection of flights, and probably more expensive ones.

Just stay on for the midweek events.

Isn't it weird how there are no planes in the sky?
(I'm not confident that there will still be an evening flight Cbr-Adl in future...)

tRicky:
I saw a plane today. Its shadow went right over me.

After Easter if you're going for WOC I'd spend a few days training around Lithgow and Mudgee sandstone terrain if you don't need to get back to work straight away. Closest thing we have to Czech terrain. Especially as it doesn't look like anyone will be getting to Europe this year to race.
Apr 13, 2020 10:09 AM #
biddy:
But Czech might be the year after with the way things are going
Apr 13, 2020 10:15 AM #
Ecmo:
Maybe they'll put it back a year. Not as yet though.
Apr 13, 2020 10:22 AM #
Clara:
I'd recommend the Rylstone area to remember those limericks fondly.
Apr 13, 2020 10:47 AM #
Uncle JiM:
2021 will be Czech. If no WOC this year, it could be 2022 (if Scotland agrees) or 2024 as that is the next spare date

I had to stop, I ran out of words that rhymed with "Bridget". :)

At least the poetry distracted the rest of you from seeing the President getting a massive cramp while trying to get on the platform to do a presentation.
Apr 14, 2020 12:31 AM #
Juffy:
There once was a president named Trewin
Who did his level best to ruin
the prezzos by cramping
while climbing the ramping
Which of course amused everyone viewin'.
Apr 14, 2020 12:43 AM #
jennycas:
You've missed your calling, Juffy.

Just thinking: if the OA president had ever been chased by cows, you could have a line about them all mooin'...

BTW, another word which rhymes with Bridget is Gidget.

Are you still President? I know the AGM was meant to be on Sunday but I've lost track of when the revised date and online meeting is.

She even looks vaguely like Biddy. :)

What is going on?
Apr 14, 2020 2:51 AM #
blairtrewin:
AGM's Thursday night. I'd planned to step down but will now stay on until things are back to something approaching normal (hopefully by the end of the year).

Fridget is another word https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Fr...
Apr 14, 2020 3:20 AM #
tRicky:
I like the fact that in order to understand the definition given in the urban dictionary, you have to look up other words within the definition to see what they mean in the urban dictionary.
