Discussion: New Street O Virtual Small Town Challenge

in: Orienteering; General

Many people around the world participated in the Cuyahoga Falls Virtual Orienteering Challenge a few weeks ago. This Saturday, an even better event will be available. This one is based on a new map of quaint Canal Fulton, Ohio. Because this town is smaller, the course is to be "run" while staying in Google Maps Street View the entire time. Unlike Google Earth, Maps has a small inset map in the lower left while in Street View. This feature helps keep you in touch with the printed map you will download.
On Saturday, April 25th at 9 AM, the course map and question sheet will be available in pdf format on our club website.
First three to get all 23 answers correct gets a Python buff hat.

The perils of creating a Street View O event. Although the answers and map were vetted Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, the "wrong" answer to an easy question about a custard stand mysteriously showed up on the first two entries. I checked on Google Maps Street View and found that Google chose this time to update the photos for this street. No other answers were affected. Glad to catch this glitch early!

Although we've already had our three winners, this virtual contest and the previous one featuring Cuyahoga Falls, OH are still available on the schedule page at:

Many thanks for both of those events - good fun.
As a 'payment in kind' I can offer this event around Liverpool:
Just one bit of help for those of you not from the UK: the phrase "England expects that every man will do his duty" is a quotation from a famous British admiral at a famous naval battle in 1805 which I can rely on everyone in Britain recognising, but I realise that that is not a fair assumption for elsewhere.

My guess is that it's an Admiral Nelson quote.
Confirmed by the Google (which says Vice Admiral ... sorry, I promoted him!).
