I have a query from some scouts interested in the permanent orienteering course in JB Williams Park (Glastonbury, CT). Jon and I haven’t been able to dig anything up online besides a brief mention in 2012 as part of the city’s summer camp.

Does anyone have more information about this map they can share with us?
Thanks!

Once upon a time there was a ski slope there, with rope tow. Now overgrown. Glastonbury HS uses for xc course. As I remember from a long time ago, the woods were nice and a good network of trails about.

Never heard of that park until now. I know the XC Coach at Glastonbury, I'll ask if he knows anything. He has also done some orienteering, so if there is a map of some sort there, he'd probably know about it. I'm currently mapping in Glastonbury already, though a different spot. But if the woods are good and worthy, I might be able to put something together. Looks to be a small park.

Appears to have been a Paul Pearson map there at one point. I've never seen a copy, but my coach friend says he was first exposed to orienteering there many years ago. Apparently varied terrain, but nothing overly technical, lacking rock features. Perhaps I'll whip up a KP map and zip over there for a look around this week.
