Oooh, nice! Thanks. What a comprehensive References section! And the Targeted Questions for Future Research section is eye-opening.
As a primarily-ultra distance athlete, this stuff is critical, but sadly poorly understood by the layperson (me!), and generally fraught with vagueness and hype due to the big $$ involved in the industry, and good old confirmation bias. I've fiddled with my endurance nutrition over the course of the last 10 years, and have worked up a generic set of (essentially) folk guidelines for myself that seem to "work", but I realize the criticality of this cornerstone of performance, and further tuning is always in order.
