It’s been curious to watch. There’s no disputing a closure was warranted because of the gatherings that happened as soon as the weather got hot.

As they put up the fence they added signs as well that said ‘beach closed due to provincial emergency order’. The next day city staff were going along the length of the fence putting duct tape over that line.

Other reasons cited for the closure were that water testing was not happening as it normally would. And also that the beach sand groomer hadn’t been through the area yet. The day after the fence went up I saw the beach groomer vehicle down there.

I think the fence lasted about ten days. Changing factors and bad luck on the timing of putting it up to begin with may be the main issues.

Interesting. I didn't know the back story. It was clear there was a back story when access resumed so soon. I went down for a bike ride with the kids today, and the beach was pretty empty, but I'd avoid it on the weekends.
