Our originally scheduled June long weekend events have also been rescheduled to the September long weekend. In both cases, our long weekend is a week earlier than SA's (which probably explains why you get your weather a week after us too).
I'd be sad too had I known you were coming - but not sure yet as Vic are holding a major event and OA would prefer no clashes. Maybe the decision has been made and I'm not in the loop. I'm more disappointed at missing out on the NSW Rogaine Champs at Bourke.
BTW _ I'm taking credit for the title LDIII replacing QBIII
I thought states were planning to not have clashes, now it looks like SA, Vic, and NSW all have something planned for the 1st weekend in Oct

OA was planning for the states not to have clashes, but it appears that the states may not be listening (although I wouldn't take current Eventor entries as definitive yet).
WA has its club relays on that weekend so you won't get any visitors from here either. Club relays are the highlight of our season! It's also not a long weekend.
@Blair: sounds a bit like the situation with CV border restrictions...
As Vic dates are still TBC, and the states either side of Vic are going to use the Oct date, why not Vic go for the Sept weekend instead. That way SA and NSW can make use of the public holiday weekend, and go to Vic the weekend before
To be renamed cOvic in honour of being terrible at containing the virus.
When we were planning our program for July-October 3-4 weeks ago there was no communication from OA about clashes that we were aware of, and certainly no indication that VOA were planning a schools series that partly clashes with our long weekend (rescheduled from the May/June long weekend).
Hmm, Wagga-Newcastle QBIII (LDIII tinytoes) or Wagga-Beechworth/Eldarado Vic Champs? No brainer really.
I'm trying to figure out my MTBO season with AWOC events on 5-6/9, Qld champs on 12-13/9 and Aus champs (Newcastle) on 18-20/9. Only the first weekend is really driveable from my yet to be lived in (by me) second residence in Melbourne.
OSA has considered for a while the option of moving what was planned for the June long weekend to October and confirmed this on Tuesday. We need to consider all the local less to semi-serious orienteers and members who are not likely to go to either NSW or Vic.
Makes sense to me, 3 events on a 3-day weekend. Vic events are only 2 days
Not as though WA orienteers ever travel to the QBIII anyway (or vice versa for interstaters to our champs events). I think it's a bit of a unique situation this year in that a lot of events are now needing to be crammed into half a year so clashes between the 'big' states are going to be inevitable.
At this rate it's not going to be an issue for orienteers
traveling between SA and Vic anyway.
