So long as your Sister is OK with it and so long as you are OK with it potentially not happening and loosing the cash then go for it. Book the flight. Hold off paying for anything else as long as you can.
I’m sorely tempted. Surely quarantine won’t last another 7 weeks. An O fix would be good.
I know. I'm hoping they'll quietly drop the quarantine thing soon ......
Even if they fine me £100, I don't care? I'd pay that to salvage *some* of this spring/summer?
*** OPINION ***
The main concern I have about your plan is that it is *not sufficiently complex*.
It won't be a proper summer without a Phil M'Geddon.
Please don't let us down.
OO Cup was discussed last night in the SPOOK Arms (where were you?). Judging by the number of people thinking about it, the OO Cup might find themselves inundated with entries. Can they cope with 20,000 or is there an entry limit? They don't have much competition.
I won't be committing any money until the quarantine rules are relaxed. No need to make a decision for another month.
I've lost the dial-in details for the SPOOK arms! I was actually out climbing until 8pm, got back after 8:30.
Good point re. entries. I thought it may have been the other way round, eg. a very small event with few entries, as countries *slowly* emerge from the "pandemic".
I don't mind being quarantined. it's only 2 weeks, and seeing as we've been in a state of semi lockdown for nearly 3 months now, who cares about another 2 weeks?
RRR - I am attempting to complex the plan, as my climbing buddy is still considering meeting me in Germany afterwards, so there'll be train journeys & car hire & crossing borders and stuff, could be a Philma Geddon after all! (I'll do me best)
My worry would be that the English infection rate soars and other countries shut borders completely to UK travellers.
That is a good point Jon. I'll keep an eye on it. Going OK for now but who knows......
I agree with Jon. One other practical consideration, any travel insurance may not be valid as FCO still advise against any non essential international travel.
Well, i tend to wing it (re. insurance) on these trips anyway...... (~mainly cos Alpine style insurance is very expensive). But another good point.
Sister has said the "worst case" is that we have a weeks walking holiday in Switzerland. She has two flats & two (identical) cars (not kidding), so all looking good if that happens :-)
Seems like you've covered most options :-)
I like that they had a survey about when to re-arrange for and then chose the less popular option.
I like their can do attitude. No one else in Europe is brave enough to attempt putting on an event this summer. Good luck to them.
Yes undy - I noticed they went for the less popular option!!!!
Be interesting so see if it happens & if so, if it's massively oversubscribed....... Last year was fantastic (Croatia) with the warm lakes etc.
