| superwes1000: | What is the consensus on adding non-orienteering events to attackpoint? I don't do much orienteering lately, mostly because of my schedule, but I do lots of road and trail events which I prepare for, in part, by training with the Hamilton crew. I've added a few events (GHO raids) to my log but would aslo like to add the road events I plan to do which, for now, outnumber orienteering events.
From a quick review of events listed I see one road race in toronto and the rest are o events. While I understand that this is an orienteering website lots of orienteerers that I know do road races, tri's, du's, AR and MTB racing. I would be interested to see everything that poeple are up to, but don't want to dilute the orienteering focus of the site. Any thoughts? |

| feet: | Kenny has other things to do right now, so I wouldn't expect any quick modifications. But it would be fine to add road races if the event listings were augmented with a 'type of event' property (orienteering, road running, AR, ...) and if you could then view a list of events by type.
However, I think that right now, when all the events are mingled together, it would be better not to list too many non-O events, particularly when these are unlikely to attract orienteers from a wide area (eg I can see some argument for listing GHO's adventure runs, or the USARA nationals, but not too many other non-O races). If the event is of interest to you only, you can always make it appear in your log by putting a comment dated the day of the race. It's not quite the same, but it's also more customizable. |

| jfredrickson: | You think Kenny is still busy? How long does this baby thing last? |

| Bash: | I agree with Will, even though many of my events are non-O as well.
Other than bigtime non-O events like the XTerra National Champs or the Hawaii Ironman, most non-O events are local enough in nature that there isn't much benefit in sharing them with the wider Attackpoint community on the Events List, i.e. informing people about these events and allowing them to indicate whether they plan to attend. Orienteering events, rogaines and adventure runs are not common where many of us live, and are also the main focus of this site, so I think that even regional-scale events are appropriate for the events list. It's important that the AP event listing remain a valuable resource for orienteers, as there aren't many other sources for this type of event information. In most cases, I just use a future-dated comment on my training log, since these events only matter to me and (possibly) the people who might read my log. |

| Wyatt: | I'd say if you think a few other people on AttackPoint might want to go, then add it to Events. If, say, 6 attackpointers are all doing the same AR, or even the same 10k, I'd want to know, and if it was close (e.g. bold face), I'd possibly go.
I've definitely put, and seen others put local trail runs in there over the winter/mid-summer (when O' is less common) and seen several APers (mostly DVOA/SVO) sign up, and that's been a valuable part of my decision making on attending those events or not. |

| khall: | I'm with Wyatt on this one. There is a Thanksgiving day race that about 8 people from UNO did last year (okay, so most of them had the last name Olafsen), and knowing that in advance would help me to pick fun road and trail races. But I also agree that not every road race every APer does should be listed. Can we trust common sense here? |

| khall: | Any Goslings or Olafsens lurking? Are you doing the Concord race again this year? Anyone else? |

| Sandy: | Although not quite on topic, but in the spirit on "non-orienteering" events, results from the USARA championship are slowly starting to come in. Several top orienteers are racing:

| JimBaker: | Which are the teams with orienteers? |

| Sandy: | Terry Farrah posted a note from Eric Bone on USOF Clubnet with more details, but here are some. Homepage for the race http://www.usaranationals.com/
Eric Bone - Rock N' Road Cycles Too. * Vytenis Benetis is defending his title with Hooked on the Outdoors. * Joe Brautigam (U.S. Orienteering Team member) will be there with HTHC/Unitron Hearing * Jennifer Shultis will be there with Eastern Mountain Sports * David Frei (orienteer and top rogainer) is on team Carolsteam.org/Alpine Shop * Mark Manning (2005 S.F. Night & Day winner) is with Team Nomad * Ron Eaglin (Florida orienteer and frequent AR-contributor to Orienteering North America magazine) is with the masters team Travel Country Outdoors * Phast Generation, a masters team, is composed of three orienteers who are among the top in their age group: Ken Walker (Sr.), Tracey Olafsen, and Brad Whitmore -- they have some great results under their belt, and I expect they will be a contender to win the masters division. But how will they decide who gets to hold the map? :-) |

| Wyatt: | At TA3 it looks like Joe's team's in 8th, but none of the other teams listed. Is Erin there? |

| vmeyer: | Phast Generation is 35 at TA3. |
