I'm planning to do a presi traverse on September 18th. Any idea if the huts will still be open enough to supply water (my recollection is that they typically close the high huts after this weekend)

Huts were closed this year to overnight traffic. Madison is closed now, but Lakes is open and has water available through the 21st, unless the temperature goes below freezing (in which case it probably will still have water).

It's been quite dry so there is minimal water elsewhere along the ridge. Not even much running across the Valley Way; I'd carry enough to get to Lakes (there might be water available at the State Park on the Summit; I ran through there very fast).

18th looks lovely; weekdays should be nice and quiet. I might even run up Adams early that morning; maybe see you at Appalachia!

@Ari. Thanks for the info. That is sorta what I expected. Won't see you at Appalachia though, as having looked at the weather forecast we postponed until Monday. Have fun if you decide to run.

@Alex. Hips were good with the Carrigain hike I did a couple of weeks back, and have generally been ok. Not going for a fast traverse, will probably run some, but will definitely hike the ups and the steep downs
