How does your team get credit if I do something on the site? I don't see any way that it ties back to you as the source (unless the site somehow recognizes that I got there by clicking the link on your log). The mini whiteboards under the accessories tab might actually be useful to orienteering clubs for posting last minute messages at a registration desk or download, and are pretty reasonably priced.
Each team created their own store, so any activity on this store (visits (+), interactions via chat or text (++), or sales (+++)) gets us points. It's a silly (and very short) competition designed for us to see what it's like to do what our clients do—run an online store and try to make use of the various apps and marketing tools out there.
If you're interested in the whiteboards you could probably snag a nice discount from us if you engage with the chat or text! :)
I assume the phone number thing is just for testing, but I'm always reluctant to give my number to vendors, and would not choose this as my primary contact method. Anyway, I gave the chat a try. ;-)
Communicating by text is what my company does, so the texting number definitely works! For the purposes of this store we'll delete customer numbers after today, so you don't have to worry about being contacted again.
Texting tip: if you ever receive any text marketing that you don't want (even if you signed up!) you can reply STOP and you will be marked Do Not Contact. This should work with any company/organization.
In any case, the chat on the bottom right is there expressly for people who don't feel comfortable using their number to text with the store!
The competition is over, thanks to everyone who engaged with the site! We made zero sales but actually did pretty well in all other categories. Since we were pretty skeptical that anyone would be able to make many (legitimate) sales going from zero to store in 2 days, we focused on trying to drive traffic to the site instead. Seems to have been a decent strategy.
