Rude. But that’s why we haven’t had a JK I can remember in my lifetime

I think you mean Lincolnshire as technically East Mids includes Derbyshire, which does have some decent areas. Leicestershire has a few workable ones too.

But it is a surprising choice of area to bother mapping in Scotland.

I'm sure it was nicer when it was the venue for my first ever event (carried around aged 3months).

It was probably nice back in the '70s when it was first mapped.. Actually it might have been the '60's.

And you ran it in the 60s eh Jon ? ;-)

Big Jon:
If only - I didn't start till '77* (sob) I didn't choose my parents well enough :-)

* post-WOC 1976 though I didn't hear a thing about it until after I had started.

First area I controlled on in Scotland - planned by murraystrainingsdad. There was plenty of scope for making it nasty even then. We tried not to.

Sheila needs to get out there with a spade and dig some more features though. It’s a little dull. Has any club ever had a ‘let’s dig some features in this area’ day? They do after all design golf courses.

I only point the finger at Sheila as someone told me that when they couldn’t find a hide at another ELO event (“Butterdean F-ingWood“ was how they referred to it) Sheila confessed that maybe that hide did need a little more work. But ELO are so cheery, and they get a heck of a lot of new starters so it’s all good.

I reckon its a very good area for up to light green. Bit surprising the green course didn't go into the bit by the river where the contour features are.

East Mids do have some decent areas.
I believe Graythwaite was in the EM for the purposes of JK 2004 :-)

@Arnold, you seem to have conveniently ignored Nottinghamshire
or perhaps banished it from memory.

I was trying not to upset Peter H's feelings even further.

Surely we are due a JK or British on Clumber Park sometime soon?

It’s East Anglia I was wondering about. We haven’t had a JK / British there since I was about 10 I think, and Sheringham seemed ok from my W10 course.

Big Jon:
You could run W10 again - I'm sure it would still be pleasant :-)

CUOC find the odd nice area. https://www.cuoc.routegadget.co.uk/rg2/#27&cou...
64 runners on Black can't be wrong!

Sadly this rather proves the point about EA, as Broxbourne is a borrowed CHIG area in southern Hertfordshire.

My first ever event in the UK was in Thetford Forest. I was pleased to discover it was not representative of the rest of the country.

It's also not representative of the rest of the county which is, remarkably, even worse.

Perhaps a blessing in disguise that Thetford FC won't give us permissions any more!

Having thoroughly sampled Nottinghamshire’s forests, I’m not at all upset. It’s probably not a coincidence I got into sprint.

but you've got lovely places like Cambus to do some real TD5 orienteering in...
