A good article in the NYTimes yesterday explaining how the forests of New England are sick and dying. Interesting that some landowners are cutting down their forests of white pine for instance, and planting southern hardwoods such as tulip trees, southern oaks, paw paws and persimmons which will be more resistant to insects and diseases brought on by climate change.

I wonder if the Times is overstating the case somewhat....

...trees are also stressed by bouts of drought [now 4 months long] or intense rain, by rising temperatures and changing season length, by extreme weather — by all the various manifestations of climate change....
