How can you classify your workout as 'Orienteering Related' when there is no map of Bristol Woods? Or is there?

Discovered a couple pair of O shoes that I missed the last time you were down here. Falcons and something else...brand-new! I'd like to give them to you too. So let me know when you're coming down.

AP puts up the activity before I can edit. Sometimes it’s right.
There is a crappy map of Bristol woods. No motivation to work it.

Well a crappy map is better than no map. When was it made and by whom?

And BTW, nice going Wisconsin! One of the few 2016 Trump states that flipped this year! Did you and Ms Soupbone have anything to do with that?

Hell yes we voted, put signs up in our red county. I also prayed a lot :-)

The map was started by Gary Kalben, I did some field checking and Joe gave me a base map to work on, which I never got around to.

Cool. Gary Klaben was a good mapper and orienteer. He was the guy who got me into the sport. Is he still living up there near you?

He sent at least two offspring to the US Military Academy, too, if I recall correctly. (Andrew and Sarah)

He moved back to the DC area. His kids were John and Sarah.

Great family of orienteers. Another loss to our Chicago Area Club as usual

Well CAOC hasn't put on an A-meet for 15 years! Where's the excitement? We used to put on 'Bramble Ramble' annually. With ORD and all its flights nearby, we'd get hundreds to our A meets, including a lot of Canadians. Maybe the club needs new leadership?

No one's flying to an A meet in Chicago anytime soon. And the Cat terrain in Wisconsin is so much more appealing to out of towners.

I misspoke about the Klabens. Andrew was Andrew Komm, about the same era as at least one of the Klabens. Nice that Gary still orienteers.

Yes, CAOC has some difficult terrain. But we also have an abundance of sizable mapped forest preserves within an hour of ORD, great variety of food and entertainment, and a good-size club which hasn't been challenged by working together to present a national meet for a long time. By my experience, hosting A-meets generates club unity, local publicity, brings in new members, fattens the club treasury, and shows many newbies what the sport is all about.

Yes the Cat Maps are great...as is all glacial terrain. But BGR doesn't hold a monopoly on it; MNOC, SMOC, OCIN and others have mapped it too. That didn't seem to cut into Chicago A-meet attendance in the past. Besides, ownership of the Cat Maps is still being debated. So for the time being, I doubt there will be any further O meets there.

Badger club has been sent Lawyer letters from the old badger president about using the cats maps, we are in the process of making a new maps. This project will take time, hopefully they will be ready by next fall. He claims that he received copy rights to the maps at Greenbush he helped make. We don’t want to get into legal battle in court, so we said we would not use the maps until we make our new ones. That is one big screwed up situation. So as of now we will use other maps for what few events we will put on till Covid goes away.
