You could have used Dodd St, past the O Shed, to get from the path along Herdsman to L Monger.
Probably better to take the new PSP from the east side of Hutton St through to L Monger. Which means you could be entirely on bike path from Hutton St all the way to the Shenton Park underpass. You'd need to go to Thomas St, and cross over to the Fremantle rail path, which is possibly 2-3kms longer - not much in the scheme of things, and certainly more pleasant than dodging Perth drivers.
