| wizza109: | Gday
I'm travelling around Canada in June and July and wouldn't mind including some orienteering (and maybe rogaining) along the way. Can anyone recommend any events that would be worth attending as information is hard to find? Events I already know about and could be interested in are: * Navstock Raid, Ontario (Jun 8) * US Rogaine Champs, NY (Jun 15) * Western Canadian Orienteering Champs, Alberta (Jun 27-30) Cheers |

| Hammer: | Navstock also includes a middle distance and sprint race on June 7th. US Rogaine Champs and Navstock are about 4 hours driving time apart. (close by North American Standards) |

| GOUGER: | where will you be in Canada? It is a big place.
If you happen to be in the middle of Canada, the Manitoba Orienteering Association will have some events on during this time. They are usually smaller events, but we strive to put on top quality events for all levels. Our meet schedule for 2008 will be up in the next month. www.orienteering.mb.ca |

| AZ: | You obviously need one of the Canadian National team calendars :-) (order them online via Orienteering Ontario's web site).

| j-man: | Can you see what the calendar looks like somewhere? |

| gordhun: | The calendar is awesome! Great photos, great maps, great graphs, great Smiths and a few other people, too. No need to see the whole calendar but it would attract a lot of business if even the cover were put on line.
As to the original question, while there will be a lot of orienteering events in central Canada in June (including Tuesday evenings in Ottawa and probably Wednesday evenings in Toronto) it really drops of in July. Go west then. |

| superwes1000: | While not O races, as mentioned above there aren't a lot of them during the summer, you might also try the Ontario Ultra series for great trail races or the 5 peaks series. 5 Peaks has events across the country through the summer.

| Yukon King: | Hi wizz, for western Canada, you've identified the "biggish" event in that timeframe, specifically the Sundre AB event. The only other event that I'm aware that hasn't been scheduled yet is Barebones which sometimes happens in June/July in Alberta, sometimes more towards September. It is really fun, & I hear it is generally pretty fine quality O....good luck, have fun!
http://www.barebones.ca/ OABC has a nice regional(+) calendar on their website...search OABC... I think there's some trail running in the Vancouver area in that timeframe too...maybe squamish thunder (?), mount seymour peak challenge, which are non-O but interesting trail-based events - pretty locations, fun terrain... |

| theshadow: | I have posted the backpage of the calendar (which is a kind of overview of the pages inside) on my blog

| wizza109: | Wow I was surprised to see so many responses. Thanks everyone for your advice.
As far as where I'm travelling goes, according to those events I'll need to go east to west and the places I'm planning to visit are New York, Halifax, Montreal, Toronto, The Rockies and Vancouver with various sidetrips along the way. I have no idea about how to get to events but there's plenty of time to work that out. Thanks |
