Old-style fuses can generate a bit of smoke when they pop. If your boiler isn't working, it's likely that the fuse for that circuit has simply gone. Might be a surge, but could also be that the fuse is just old and degraded. It might just be that if you turn off the master switch, replace that fuse, and turn the master on again, all will be well - although if it goes pop again instantly after you flick the master switch back on, then there's a fault in that circuit. The electrician will probably advise upgrading to a modern fusebox anyway if you are still using an old-school one!

As for the other calamities - hm, definitely got out of the wrong side of bed that morning!

We have a smart meter that is totally thick. Or maybe it's just s@dding EDF. Paying £118/mo for the annual contract based on previous year's usage. In June they try to drop this to £79/mo. Have to phone up and say, no thanks, put it back up to £118 please. The other day I get our second bill for the year (!). They're refunding us £80 as we're in credit, but also putting up the monthly cost to £221 for the next 15 months. WTAF?! We were in credit and the effing contract is only until May 2021! You can take your smart meter and ###### whoops kids present.
