I've just committed to an ultra-marathon the weekend prior to Easter (sadly it's in Perth - I entered last September when I got all enthused after my last ultra) so I'm going to be in top shape for it.

Speaking of bush events though, with our travel plans in the lead up we'll get exactly zero bush experience beforehand.

Our bush events locally are very thin on the ground too prior to Easter, despite Easter being in April (just). We can get "some" if we travel. I guess it's the committed or the naturally talented - I'm neither.

I'm tentatively eyeing off the NSW sprint champs/Wattle Ridge SL weekend as an opportunity to go see the folks in Penrith. Or is it the other way around?

WA almost never has any bush events prior to Easter, only training if someone organises it. Usually too hot or a fire risk out in the bush.

There used to be the O'Shea 2 Day event - well it still is - which has a multi-faceted style (Relay, Night, Pairs). Maybe 10 years ago it struck a couple of hot days and numbers became very wary of entering for such event late Feb - but it (then) did provide some consistent bush event exposure. However time passing and now it is almost entirely urban/parkland. The cake prizes are still worth the entry though.

Evalin may be organising some bush training in SA

As far as fire risk is concerned, I'm now more concerned about the spring part of the season than the autumn. We've dodged bullets a few times now with the Australian Championships carnival with extreme fire weather days being a couple of days after the end of the week (2015), falling on a sprint day (2017) or coinciding with an event which had already been cancelled for other reasons (2020).

I'm potentially looking at the March long weekend in Tasmania, assuming the event is happening and there aren't any issues with travel.

Simon and I have committed ourselves to look after a 2-3 week old human over Easter. Sounds exhausting
