is definitely too fast. interval training is used during the break (adaption). therefore the breaks should be taken slowly. the goal is to get the lactate out. I run my breaks in a ~6.30/k pace .When you have got used to interval training you can start shortening the breaks. that brings another profit.

Ah, but where is the line between that, and "fartlek"? 6:30 pace is terribly slow.

Thanks tho! i was thinking next session would be 2k in 10mins warmup, then 1km x 3 in 3:45 with 5min km rests. In racing shoes.

What fun it all is.

Take up Turfing rather than crippling yourself with overly fast running :)

It s up to you phil but Wikipedia says:

Extensive 1000 m runsedit

Exercise phases: 4–6 × 1000 meters at 95 to 97% of the 10 km competition pace up to 15 × 1000 meters at 90 to 95% of the 10 km competition pace

Recovery phases: 2–3 minutes' trot break until the heart rate has fallen into the recovery range

Training goals: Development of basic endurance at a high level

And trot break is not 5min/k pace ;-)

Maybe when it's warmer i may try Turfing. It's too cold to be cycling & getting y bloody phone out right now tho.
