Well it is here. The cold wave. Of course the weatherman could not be wrong on something like this. Depending on which weather outlet you check it is between 13 and 15 and -1 to 0 WC. Supposed to be snow for 4 days starting tomorrow...some of it heavy. Two days are predicted below zero at night. Monday -12 is coldest I can remember of actual temp. I don't know if I've ever seen it that cold for actual temp in Okieland.

When I first got to OU/Norman Jan of 1978 there was a storm with several inches 4-6 range of snow and -25 WC give or take a degree. It does look when it warms up next Fri into the 40's that it will stay at 40 and get into 50's some in the following days. I believe that is better than they had been saying but until Friday not looking good.

James is in Austin with Okie Christian U basketball team, as assistant grad (he's well on way to his masters!). It is only 29 there now. I believe that is the equivalent to 55.73 below zero in Duluth.

Be careful up there. Even Finlanders have their limit for the cold.

It was supposed to get worse but now it appears that it will be 'more worse' than they said. Great. Heater fan barely working so even though the furnace is working not all the warm air is being circulated. Down to 62 inside. Lot better than if electricity was out.

Toivo!:
You can use electric heater, your stove, boil water on stove, etc.
My sister's furnace went out the other night at 9:00 pm. Gas company showed up at 3:00 am. and told her the furnace was shot. (It wasn't... my brother fixed it the next day.) All the while it was 26 below zero.
It got down to -50 (not counting wind chill) up by Ely MN two nights ago.

I've been using the stove. It's 57 now and feels colder than that. Bundled up. Coldest I ever was in was 40 below. When I worked for Gateway. Can't remember the town. I ran that morning and there was not 1 breath of wind. The tires on my van were froze so that when I tried to back up nothing happened. I had to gun the engine to get them to 'break loose'. I left my Gateway stuff in one night instead of taking it into the hotel room and some of the shampoo stuff 'fogged' up and never did look normal. It's probably still on the shelf. Even the boss on a check up noticed it and knew what I did (probably because he had done that once).

My parents were without power for 3 weeks a few years ago. I may have mentioned that 114 times like most of my stories but that's pretty impressive being 80 years old. My mom is responsible for stuff like that. Dad has been pretty helpless for awhile now.

So your brother wouldn't happen to have a Edmond trip scheduled would he? :-)

Boiling water now. Eating microwave burrito lunch with jalapeno's added to warm things up. No jokes please.

I have this memory of going to school first winter we lived in that off base, base housing and the wind chill was 77 below zero. That might be wrong but 77 is a odd number (yes it is mathematically also) to remember. We waited for the bus in one of the detached garages the USAF provided. That would have been 1970. We lived in Cloquet fall of 69 then moved into base housing in about January and that's when you and Jay first noticed me at Washington JR High.

AP weather report says it's 1 degree and minus 20. It's cold for Okieland. We on verge of some records.
