Pretty much everyone I spoke to missed it. I collected it later and it was about 15m north of the head of the gully, which explains why I missed it coming from the north because I didn't start looking until the low point on the track.

What I don't understand is regular orienteers who still put plate controls flat on the ground. Surely after many years of competing they realise that those are the hardest to see (particularly if put into a sandpit). At least half the events this season had some or all of them on the ground.

Sometimes there's no other option, but certainly in many cases there's an alternative feature nearby. What will you do in Melbourne - they're all on the ground there?
