Plus the airfare???
I'm hoping our relocation to the east coast means reduced travel costs will now somewhat offset the prices charged for national carnival entry fees - I presume we'll enter more (I've only competed in one national foot champs outside of WA and only one in WA come to think of it but several Easters and NOLs).
Why is it so much? Are they giving money to the campus for use?
State League the next day is $27 (whereas we'd only charge $15 for OY events), so no, I guess it's just because Sydney clubs are money-hungry.
This is why we moved to Melbourne instead of Sydney. Everything is bigger there, though I'd have liked to run street events against Ori and come in on time, every time.
...and I thought it was because you wanted to find light poles on black & white maps for only $4.
I didn't know about the black and white maps until I got here and I am pretty disappointed about that.
We ran here a few years ago Tash and it was black and white back then too (but it's $5, not $4).
I'm quite happy to start drawing colour maps for the state but I hear it's not easy to persuade the Parks and Street people to do so.
I can't remember the few years ago event. Maybe I was so traumatised that I forgot...
I am also very miffed with ONSW. As you know I can't go to Easter and let Ron know on 10th Feb, He then passed my bank details to the NSW office. However I do not yet have my refund, the excuse more than once has been they are waiting on details from others and want to do them all together. In SA Ken Thompson paid refunds almost insistently and certainly did not take more than a month.
I'd have thought the refund would go to the account you paid it with, in most cases PayPal, meaning the refund should have easily gone back to the source and not be reliant on people providing info.
They want to for whatever reason pay to a bank account. Ken and club treasurers here provides refunds through PayPal
From what I remember, PayPal refunds are time limited.
Sounds fathomable since it's been well over a year. I think PayPal also refunds the merchant fee if my knowledge of WA refunds is any indication (we tend to get back the full payment rather than a -10% administration fee deal).
PayPal aren't so generous as to refund their fees, they just don't charge any on a refund.
Interesting, OWA is either losing out in that regard or else subverting the system somehow.
Looking at entry fees for major events and associated events - for the events concurrent with the schools champs in Tassie - you have to enter all 3 days! This is what they say - "Turbo Chook 3 Days: As a 3 day event you only need to enter once for all three days. You can not enter individual days. But you are welcome not to run on any particular day (no refunds for missing a day will be available)."
They will have to live or die by this decision.
I'm still trying to decide if I want to die in St Helens terrain.
Me too - it's never really appealed to me apart from the tin mining section. And it eats ankles :(
Weird, I'd only ever heard rave reviews about St Helens before we went there in 2018 (why else do they keep holding events) but now all I hear is how much people hate it. Tash definitely doesn't want to go.
A lot of the rave reviews came from the first time we were there in 1988, not too long after a fire, when it was magic. At least some of the areas burnt a couple of years ago so I'm at least vaguely hopeful that history may repeat itself.
I seriously considered the May ACT/NSW NOL weekend since I've not run in dunes before until I realised it clashes with the Vic National Series MTBO (the date of which was only moved to avoid clashing with NZ MTBO Champs, which we now can't go to) so that ruled that one out too. Plus the third event that weekend is a relay and there is a less than 0.0001% chance that WA will field a team.
Looks like my decision just got made for me, well at least I have a potential training course on the first weekend in Oct now though I can still make the first weekend of the champs and possibly Turbo Chook if I really want to. Won't find out for certain until a couple of weeks prior though!
