Seemed a bit far for a Mt. Tom hike until I saw you went to buy I phones (presumably). What did you buy? I need to update from a 6s, having some version of 12 in mind. As well as a funny scam story re same but this is not the place:-)

The first Mt. Tom A meet was October, '78 if I remember correctly - an early first if not the first decent A meet map, same era as Quabbin and Sharpe anyway. I ran a mediocre Saturday in my usual sweat pants/running shoes kind of garb. Saturday afternoon, I bought an O outfit (pants & shoes anyway) and, might I say, excelled on red, although I have no specific recollection of weekend results.

Colette had a 6S and opted for the SE 2020. She like a basic phone and doesn't need a great camera.

I bought the IPhone 12 Mini even though I would have liked the IPhone Pro Max for it's better camera options. But I have a particular water belt, the adidas Sensibelt that use for 95% of my daily hikes and that has space for a water bottle plus a small pouch for holding my car key, some sort of bar and Shot Blox, plus my phone. My old phone, the Smasung S7 barely fit in the bag. The iPhone 12 Mini slides in easily.

I'll grab a nice protective cover and screen protector. I bought the red version and will get a clear case so that I'll be able to spot it on the trail when I drop it. :-)

I'm also in the have-a-6s want-a-12 crowd. Leaning toward the mini like Fanatic. Fits in pockets more easily as you said, saves a little money (if you can call spending $700-$800 "saving money"), and other than screen size has all of the features of the 12 and almost all of the features of the Pro and Max. I too would prefer the Max camera (especially the telephoto) but not for that much money and I already find the 6s borderline too big. Only knock I've heard on the mini is that the battery doesn't last quite as long as the batteries in the bigger phones (which have more room to put a little more battery in), but sounds like it'll last a full day in the kind of usage I'll be giving it.

bl, pretty good chance that the O outfit you bought at that first Mt Tom meet was from Fanatic, don't you think?

So far I really like the Mini--no complaints. BTW, Steve, the telephoto in the Mini is the same physically as the 12 Pro, but the Mini does not have Optical Image Stabilization, while the Pro does.

I wish I still had some of the original O-pants that I was selling way back when; they would be great for my hikes, especially when I decide to go off trail and take a shortcut or two. ;-)

Fred, what did you name your business? Who else was selling O clothes etc back then, say 35-40 yrs...(!) Don't recall when Gale Teschendorf started.

As best that I can recall, they were sold through my running store, runner'shop, Inc., in Northampton. Don't recall selling them with any "brand" name.

Judy got a Xr recently, much less money. Upgrade from a six.....I still have a .....Samsung S3 ! Works for me ( I virtually never use it but for safety on a bike ride or maybe for a picture for the web.

I loved my Samsung but the cracked screen gave me a chance to switch, which made sense as I have a Macbook Pro and now can have interoperability between the devices.
