Dan is making excellent progress with her orienteering skills, especially given that it is only her 2nd week. Finishing a race and describing your time as "I would have been 40 minutes, except I made 20 minutes of mistakes" is definitely an intermediate skill - far beyond the grasp of a mere novice. By next week, I bet she'll be complaining that the flags were hung too high - or too low. And with her current rate of progress, it won't surprise me if by the end of November she has had her first debate with a race director regarding a misplaced control.
Good work, Dan! Keep it up! ;-)
Good points but your projected schedule may not be realistic - Dan doesn't seem to have developed sufficiently overweening ambition to be running the long-O champs this weekend or the Susquehanna Stumble the following one so I suspect it will, for lack of opportunity, take her at least until mid-December to get disappointed at the strange lack of perfection exhibited by both maps and course setters.
Take her to Balls Bluff. That map has significant enough errors to make even the novice take notice.
