O Steve!:
Which event has the greatest number of participants running on the same course?

I would guess that its Raid the Hammer....Which Goat events are the largest....the Minnegoat here in the Twin Cities had 42 starters with 3 DNF's I believe...who had more?

among goats, it would have to be the original billygoat. in 2004 (mt tom) we had 129 starters.

PG:
World Rogaine Champs in Arizona had 175 teams with at least 2 persons per team, so at least 350 and probably about 400 participants, all on the same course.

O Steve!:
you know....I put on an Adventure Run series here in the Twin Cites with the assistance of MNOC, who helped tremedously (thanks Ian)...no official listing, no advertising, no website....just an email list and word of mouth....four Friday nights in a row...same park, same map...different course each night...participants numbers where as follows: 27, 37, 47, 90!....many of the people who came out and ran on teams had never done orienteering before....we had post race gatherings after the event that had 20-30 people showing....if any format seems to be able to draw in new orienteers its this one...

If orienteering is looking to attract TV its this format....but more than that...this format can attract people to the sport if you do it a certain way....Raid the Hammer is a great example of the appeal of this format....I think it has its place in the Orienteering world and I am going to work with the MNOC to hopefully do a spring series also...

Scout O's and Texas JROTC events probably draw several hundred each on Yellow / Orange courses. I think last year's DVOA Scout O' event has well over 500 participants running the Score O'.
