See my email re map...... very bizarre that it got changed from the 2017 map!!!
Yes that is odd. I love that the "new" path we were warned about in start lanes had supposedly appeared - in the place where it was mapped on the older map.....
Do you know who made this update?? Very odd.It seems unlikely that the ride (that wasn't on 2017 map) could have reappeared enough to map, and then gotten overgrown again so that it was almost indistinguishable from forest... maybe...
I think this must have been Trevor. If you look on Google maps, there is a path shown about where it is now mapped. I came down the 'new' path when waking up controls and got very confused, as there is only one path in that direction from the junction (and that is the 'new' one!!)
The path has always been there, but to be fair it was reasonably indistinct winter 2019/2020 when the thinning works were being done in that block. From memory it leads down to a proper gate so would re-establish as people use it.
Maybe there was an extraction lane visible then if thinning was happening..... Which has subsequently grown over while myriad COVID new outdoor enthusiasts re-established the path when they couldn't go to brunch..... Benefit of the doubt anyway.....
The same extraction lane that just happened to be there in 2012 :-)
Yes Richard, it does go down to a gate and is the only visible path/ride/extraction lane at the junction at the east end of said path.
The ride has always been there too. On the ground it looks like a single track path with a bit of undergrowth either side - no appreciable gap in tree cover. You could tell when you were on it, but it was very easy to cross without noticing. Not sure what it's like post thinning as I've been keeping away from all the tourists since Covid.
I'd say it's pretty difficult to distinguish anymore. With a bit of imagination I could see it, but I think I would have struggled had I not read the map corrections.... The map would make more sense without it than with it I would say....
