Could you imagine the protests that would happen if Victoria went into lockdown yet again after reaching the magical 90% vaccination target? It would amount to political suicide, not that I really think this government will last past the next state election.

Wouldn't be too sure about that https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theage.com.au/pol...

At the moment, even more so than usual, any election is effectively a referendum on the performance of the government, as long as it has a competent opposition. The Victorian government would be under pressure if it had a competent opposition, but what it actually has is an outfit who have done an excellent job of selling the message that "Dan Andrews stuffed up and if we'd been in charge it would have been even worse". The last two polls I saw had Labor in the high 50s.

Well they didn't ask for my opinion in that poll so it's hardly representative.

Ricky, are you registered to vote in Victoria yet?

Blair, why would you have expected an instantaneous lockdown - that doesn't make sense. Maybe the middle of next year we can anticipate that sort of thing happening though :(

Meanwhile, WA has decided that everyone from SA has to quarantine for 14 days just because we have allowed half a dozen people with the virus into SA last week (and captured them immediately). It does beggar belief though that SA hadn't actually implemented the rule about having a negative test before coming into the state from the east, until after they'd allowed a few thousand people in...

You don't necessarily think terribly rationally when you can't get back to sleep at 4am (and I think WA was just looking for an excuse).

Yes I registered to vote over here pretty quickly.

You'll definitely be feeling the love at election time - I think you're in a marginal seat at both national and state level. The sitting state member for Ringwood's decided to quit after one term - I suspect this may have been a case (they happen occasionally) of someone who was a candidate for an unlikely seat in an election when a big swing's on, for whom actually getting elected didn't form part of their career plans. (I'd guess there are a few new Labor MPs in posh suburbs of Perth who fall into the same category).

The real problem is that the people making the decisions don’t necessarily have the same logic patterns, or motives. They are driven by other things. Why a 72 hr home quarantine? I suspect because the people who made the decision needed to be seen to be doing something, but didn’t want to go the full 10-14 days.
I am more concerned about this sort of decision making than catching anything, because you can’t actually plan with any certainty

By the next election there’s a chance I might be able to vote! Not being able to seemed a fair reason to not meet the greens candidate on station st last week.
