James: A lot of the vegetation on the southern and eastern slopes of Flinders Peak at the You Yangs is dying like those prickly pears you mention - so much so that you can tell from a kilometre away on the road. It's hard to tell if it's a boneseed bug, aerial spraying or the drought.

TheInvisibleLog: I think they are being poisoned. Prickly pear elsewhere is doing fine. There was another round of poisoning two seasons ago.
