I skied there just before the pandemic started and loved the grooming and trails. Vistas are awesome too. I also found the climb up the escarpment to be more enjoyable than Highlands.

Tarno set some pretty darn good skiO courses there

It sure is not a massive trail system, but good use of a small area, lots of ups and downs to keep things interesting and then those field loops to add some distance.

I spoke to staff afterwards when I was waxing and they groomed it at 4am, which is important to have it set for the day of skiing.

But for non-SkiO, big enough for a Middle?

When we used to have season passes to both local ski centres, we did almost all our skating at Scenic Caves. The escarpment climb at Highlands feels harder to me but some friends disagree.

When we were there on Saturday, I was remembering the old-style Stars Winter Adventure Race, where we could choose skis or snowshoes or a mix. Scenic is a great place for that.

Ontario needs a multi sport winter AR with nav. Miss those races especially since i’m retired from Ski-O racing now

What happens after you beat Tarno in a Winter AR with nav? Retire from those too?

Haha. I don’t think i’ve ever raced against him in winter AR but i also don’t think we lost when racing together either.

Fyi the new Dontgetlost South Georgian Bay group is hoping to hold a major ski-O event next winter. You might have to come out of retirement. Tarno will be the RD so your record will remain intact.

So this might be for a separate thread, but who are the “up and coming” Ontario adventure racers after Emma and Milla?
We talk a lot about Orienteering athletic development, but how is AR doing?

The Smith girls are up and coming, for sure. I'd also say that their parents are up and coming in AR! Adventure racers tend to peak in their 40s. The captain of the top AR team in the world was 50 when he won the World Champs last year and not many people are betting against his team this year.

If we were to look for Ontario's next great adventure racers, they're probably succeeding in other sports right now - like Emma and Milla.

So I named a Tarno and Wadd V.2.0
