Do you carry wedges? The local pro has an assortment for freeing up the bar, and uses one on a bungee cord so it doesn’t get lost.

I got my Sawzall stuck a couple of times but it’s easy to detach the blade, install another and cut it out.

I had to trudge back to the Hottage for the one wedge I had, but the tree defeated that trick. Turned out the panel saw from the other side did the trick.

There’s probably some art to wedging part way through a cut, but only known to a few arborist ninjas.

There's definitely a host of ways for rubes with more electric chainsaw than brains to get a chainsaw stuck in an 18 inch log hanging horizontally 3 feet off the ground. But it also helps to keep bashing away at a problem until, for mysterious reasons, it yields and gives you your chainsaw back.

I won't know until I don't need my fingers for dentistry. No chainsaw for me until then. I plan to take the course and get proper safety eqpt. then maybe deal with low-risk trees only.

Full disclosure, this wasn't 'Bent's choice. His wife banned him from real chainsaw use until he stops working because he isn't super patient with finicky objects unless they're in someone's mouth.

Jenn worked with someone whose husband chainsawed through a tree, then his leg and they found him deceased a couple of steps away from the tree. Shit is for real. I don’t use them either.

'Bent and I were asked to guide a chainsaw volunteer on the ski trails this winter. He's a former firefighter who now works as an arborist and first aid instructor. I was blown away at how seriously he treated a fallen tree - something he must have dealt with hundreds of times. He wore orange chainsaw pants and commented, "I can always see where my legs are." He set up a little video camera on a tripod; he keeps a record of every job in case anything comes up. He gave us some first aid supplies to use if he cut himself badly and explained how to use them. He laid out a line on the ground that we were not to cross while he was using the saw. Etc. Like Super's tragic story, this did not help 'Bent's case.

Oh, but about the red chainsaw pants. Welp. They work. I’ve proven it. Dr. PBV was there. But he’s not a real doctor, so he wouldn’t have been much help.

Georgian Nordic has many chainsaw ninjas. I’m not one of them and never will be and i’m also not a real doctor either.

it’s amazing to watch the chainsaw ninjas take down large pine trees with ease.

'Bent's not a real doctor either - unless the chainsaw knocks someone's tooth out.
