That sounds really difficult. And terrifying on the descents. Is this skating? I can't even picture how to do that.

It's not as difficult as it sounds. For degrees of difficulty, I think trying to catch a 15' long king cobra bare handed and not having it bite you or spit venom in your eyes would be vastly more difficult. If you went out skiing with me, we could have you skiing backwards along with me on your very first try--guaranteed.

Some of my college friends were blown away by my mad skiing skillz, specifically that I could ski backwards. But that was alpine, very different. They were taking bunny hill lessons, and between runs on more challenging slopes, I'd stop by to see how they were doing. As they were tentatively snowplowing their way down something that was almost flat, I'd ski backwards so I could chat with them.

Skiing backwards is obviously a piece of cake. Former national team skier Robin Bryntesson managed to ski Vasaloppet backwards yesterday! He did this as a fund raiser for Ukraine to collect funds to buy all-terrain ambulances.

It's a very nice touch having his name spelled backwards on the number vest.

It always nice to see folks thinking outside of the box. I wonder how it went also with drinking blueberry soup backwards while skiing? But presumably no problem there, either, not for a former national team member.

Pouring blueberry soup down your back must be good for something...

Robin was also involved testing the future sprint course in Ă–stersund...

Sheesh, ignoring the remaining 88 km, how the heck did he ski backwards up that big hill at the start? I want to see the video of that!

Now that was a proper biathlon competition.

When I watched the IKEA biathlon the player came up with autoplay turned on. After the biathlon finished it launched into a video of Tiril Eckhoff shooting biathlon targets with a large snake (cobra maybe?) wrapped around her.

I guess the good news is once he makes it up that first hill the rest of the course is easy by comparison, other than the fact that it's just a really long way.

I would suggest that he's a bit nuts, except that I'm the guy who skied the open track there the day after I broke a bone in my wrist. In my defense I didn't realize it was broken. I figured if it was broken it would hurt more. When I finally got it looked at, 7 years later, I was told "yeah, this is the bone that we really wish would hurt more when people break it."

Robin is obviously still in great shape and fine form. I say give him some ski, and a headlamp, and send him out on the Langa Natten at Tiomila.

And kudos to him for his efforts to raise money to help the Ukrainians in their war against the Russians.
