Discussion: Sat evening dinner and activities cancelled

Power remains out to the entire Carter Caves State Resort Park following the high winds this afternoon which are continuing (although diminishing) this evening. All evening activities (dinner, awards ceremony, Barb Bryant's Youth presentation) are cancelled. Barb will work on creating a video to send out in a week or two to those of you who are interested. The park has indicated that they will refund the Saturday banquet, so next week we will work on figuring out how to handle refunds to participants.
We hope that those of you who did the cave tour this afternoon enjoyed the rare experience of doing a flashlight tour, since power to the cave lighting system was also out!
Awards from Friday and Saturday races will be at the finish on Sunday and may be picked up before or after running your Sunday course.
The road to the pool area was blocked by very large fallen trees and power lines. Park maintenance is working to get the road re-opened. It may be necessary for everyone to park at the lodge and walk west across Smokey Bridge to get to the pool area (finish) and starts for the Sunday courses. If you are coming into the park from the outside, the directions to parking (either the pool area or lodge) will be marked with "orienteering" signs. We will attempt to keep you updated on any new developments.
Thanks to our EMT's and park staff for their help today in rescuing an injured runner. Fred Dolder of GAOC injured his ankle and had to be helped out of the woods, but he was in good spirits and we wish him a complete and speedy recovery.

Wow! That’s a rough situation. Glad it didn’t adversely affect the orienteering, but what a shame for all the activities and dinner to be cancelled.
