Usually the NAOC elite champions get personal starts at WOC...might be a reason to compete?

Yes, that's also a reason, but it's not guaranteed to happen. I think the flight cost is the biggest issue...

Ask OUSA for help! We need you there!

Coaching JWOC will get you a free (or greatly reduced? I’m not sure but Andrea can tell you) round trip… so you really just have one round trip to pay for.
Personal spots are great, but as you said, not guaranteed.
Help the US beat Canada!!

OTOH, O Ringen is awesome, in the mountains this year. Tough competition, we'll be there. ;)

Jeff you're not helping ;-)

Stay in Europe. It's much more convenient and O Ringen is awesome.

Well, as I'm counting things for women's relay, we need at least one more woman for two senior relay teams...

Also - I'm planning on camping and renting a car - doesn't help on the flight side of the cost, but sharing those can make other costs nearly zero (4 days of camp site = $88). Like Boris suggested, if you need to, reach out to the ESC about a travel grant for help against the flight!

On flights, check Sacramento as well as Reno/maybe SF- I'm flying into Sacramento late on Wed from East coast.

O Ringen is indeed awesome, but it happens every year (yes I realize it's in different places, some more awesome than others). NAOC is less frequent and more important for US Team members. :-)

Yeah... I'm looking at flights and it's going to be at least 1k no matter where.
(staying in europe might also be for OOcup instead of Oringen, still waiting on the aussies to decide)

Speaking of personal starts, the rules changed this year so there's a 3-year expiry on personal places from regional championships, so if a region hasn't held a regional championship in the past 3 years, the personal WOC place goes to the highest ranked person in the World Ranking as of 2 months before WOC. As of now that's you, although Emily Kemp would probably take over if she runs two more WREs between now and the cutoff date (is she running World Cup in Norway?).

She is going to Norway.. I am as well, but our team trials is in a week and I hope I make the team then.

Five Canadians are attending the Norway NRE I heard. So wouldn’t be surprised if Emma is among them. New knew about the potential personal spot from the IOF rankings and took them into account when setting selection criteria. It’s just a bit unfortunate that we won’t know who earns the personal spots until 11 May.

Emma still needs three events for a full ranking score (Emily needs two), and is currently averaging 1077 per event, exactly the same as Evalin. (Emily is averaging 1203). Men's is more straightforward - Vegard Jarvis Westergard has a clear lead and everyone close to his average score already has a full set of events.

peggyd:
Yeah, I saw Vegard has a big lead.
I didn’t look closely at the women; it makes sense that Emily has a higher average. And I misremembered that you wrote Emily vs Emma …

Can we quickly make West Point into WREs? :)

It can't be that hard to add an extra line to all the "N"s to make them W"s
