Oh, Kissy, I'm so sorry. That sounds terrible, but I'm glad you got help and are feeling good now. I had some sort of event that led me to the ER, but it didn't happen again while I was under observation, and hasn't happened since. I hope they can figure yours out so you can get some reassurance, but that it doesn't happen again. Could it have been brought on by dehydration? My troponin level was high, but they were only concerned by how it was changing, and mine didn't. My EKG was fine at the hospital, yours not.

Yikes! That sounds super scary. Good for you for getting help right away. I hope you get some answers soon and that they are good answers.

Oh man! I had to look up tropinin; sounds pretty serious. I hope it’s actually not a big issue and you feel ready to run again soon! (Beer Chase? Maybe too far/too soon?)

Like Peggy, we looked up troponin and just do not like the sound of it. But hospital sound like a great place to be under the circumstances. Get well soon. Best wishes.

Thanks all. I'm still feeling fine. Spent the day just lounging around in my hospital room. Evidently, not a lot of testing gets done on the weekend. Hopefully I can get them done tomorrow and then get out of here.

@gail - no, it wasn't from dehydration. They tested my electrolytes and other blood stuff, and everything looked fine.

I was thinking about the possible causes of discomfort I experienced myself after the race, kind of unusual. Here is the theory: The large forest area around start/finish recently burned, still emitting carbon monoxide and lots of other toxic stuff.
Around 1 pm heavy rain started and created mist. It is known that this mist is toxic if inhaled. During the race lungs are hyperventilated, so exposure can be extreme.
This should affect those who were running late (1-3 pm) -- I finished around 2:50 pm

Googe "exposure to air pollution is associated with increases in troponin"

Very scary. I hope it proves to be a one-time thing.

Frightening. Let there be an explanation. Preferably a relatively benign one but "We don't know precisely what happened or why and who knows if it will happen again or what would make that more or less likely." is not what one wants from medical science at times like this.

Dang Kissy, that sounds scary lousy. Hope all turns out fine. Like Gail I was hoping it was just a dehydration effect., but no such luck. Hope you get to go home today - with good news and an understanding of what happened. Thinking of you.

Hi All. Looks like I'm not going home today. The CT, echo, and stress test all looked pretty good, even though my troponin levels were still up there. It looked like I was ready to go home, but then the episodes started again and continued for a few hours, pretty heavily. So, they don't want to send me home yet until they can figure things out. Now they're looking at bigeminy -- which is like an extra heartbeat but mine is going a little crazy.

Thanks for your kind words. <3

Yurets' theory makes some sense.
Also: could it be long covid?

Good it happened when you were still at the hospital and not after they let you go. Hope they figure it out and have something that will help. Yeah, definitely sending good thoughts your way.

@peggyd - I told them about my bouts with Covid, but they didn’t say much about that. Also, while yurets’ theory might make sense, I had left the area before it started to rain.

Hang in there, get it all figured out and come through fine. That's what I'm wishing and hoping for, for you. Sending good thoughts your way.
