Discussion: NAOC Model Event ?

in: CalOFest 2023 (Jul 17–30, 2023 - San Francisco, CA, US)

With some 800 people registered, the Cal-O-Fest promises to be a great boost to orienteering in North America. And built up anticipation. I've been looking forward to it for four years, almost everybody has.
I was not able to participate in the 2021 US Champs held in the same Tahoe areas. No Canadians could. SO-O-O the training, the NAOC model event/ events become very important.
I see in the Bulletin 4 the model event for Middle and Long will be at a place called Sagehen. What about practice for the Sprint?
Sagehen is also identified as the site for the Long. We will be taking busses to the Long. Will we be taking busses for the Model event, too?
Hopefully thank you for tolerating my questions. See you in a month

The COF Steering Committee is scheduled to consider these questions at their meeting this Tuesday.

The NAOC model event will take place at Sagehen on a part of the map not being used for the NAOC Long event. There is some limited parking near the model area which will be described in Bulletin 5. A pdf file of the model will be available for printing ahead of time and there will also be some spare maps provided for those who are not able to print their own which will be collected and recycled for others to use. This model event will be very representative of the terrain used in the Long and Middle events. There will not be a model event for the NAOC Sprint. However, you can get some sprint practice at the Stage 1 sprint event at the Presidio in San Francisco.

Will there be warm up maps for any of the events?

Thank you Bill.

Yes, the warm-up map for the NAOC Long will be the same area as the model event because it is close to the arena, which is why you have to be careful when parking for the model event to not to violate the embargo by driving into the competition area. The NAOC Middle will have 2 warm-up areas, one near the arena for most people and one of the quarantine area for those in the WRE classes (M/F21E,M/F20E.M/F18,M/F16).

Is the NAOC model map PDF available for download and printing somewhere? Thanks!

Let's say someone is in Chicago right now, will be in Reno late tonight and then travel to Truckee or Northstar or Sagehen tomorrow (July 20) What are the procedures (when and where?) to check in for the NAOC? to get a copy of the model (middle and long) event map? to get directions to the model area with instructions on how not to violate the embargo?

If we are staying at Northstar and no longer have access to a printer how can we get a model map please? And how do we not violate the embargo in the resort while collecting maps and just going about getting to our accommodation?
