Yeah, it was probably near the top of the most uncomfortable/painful things I've ever done. In hindsight, the fact that my welts were a lot more swollen and red than anyone else's, and no one else was complaining of burning, just itching (plus the chest tightness and nausea that didn't go away until dinnertime), a more prudent response probably would have been to take myself to the urgent care or er, or you know, just not get in the water to begin with. I'd only ever been stung by moon jellies and lions manes, both of which I had very minor reactions to, so I was definitely unprepared for the bay nettles. The biochemist in me also wonders what the difference is between the venom, as vinegar is apparently useless against bay nettles, and you're supposed to use a baking soda and water mixture instead.
