Make a plan to always be below your point feature when it is on a hill unless the description says otherwise. It is easier to hide the control on the downhill side, and the hill itself can hide a portion of the point feature (like a boulder) making it often hard to even notice a small point feature from the uphill side. Being high (which the natural desire to not give up elevation makes it normal) often leads to obscuring the flag from your vision. I've seen this quite a few times...enough to say going low and looking uphill instead of the opposite, is how you oughta roll en lieu of any other info.

You probably realize this … but in relays the control descriptions are on the map. So you can always find them there, but you have to be careful not to lose your place when you unfold your map to see them.
