OUSA’s Event Reg system is currently having a problem that apparently impacts all events. After entering the first page of personal info, and clicking to go to the next page, it returns an error message. Videlin has been notified, so hopefully it will be fixed soon.
I just saw an error having to do with the year I was born when trying to register. Ugh.
ER should now be working at least for "enter data manually". Videlin may still be working on issues with the "retrieve data" from the OUSA database. The problem was apparently caused by a SQL version update.
Is EventReg working now, or should I hold off on using it?
According to Videlin, everything is now working. Let him know if you have any problems.
I haven't tried it personally yet but did have non OUSA member registrations come in around the time Mike said it was good to go, and some since. Also Mike types faster than I do.
LOL, thanks guys. It seemed to work for me just now.
If you have links to Event Reg on your websites, the "a40/" has been removed from all ER URLs and the links need to be updated.
If you are trying to register for an event and get a "404 not found" error, either manually remove the a40/ from the address, or go find the event listing on the
Event Reg home page.
Not in USA and therefore never used your system, but the requirement to remove part of an URL as described above could possibly be easily solved server-side using a "RewriteRule" or "RedirectMatch" in the .htaccess file on your web-server.
If you need help with this, just ask (and ideally, show me a "wrong" and a "right" URL to help me write the "rewrite recipe").
Oh wait, Google helped me find some example URLs.
So the eventreg-Admin (Videlin?) will just need to add this line to a file called .htaccess, placed either in the root folder or in the eventregister folder:
Redirect permanent "/eventregister/a40/" "/eventregister/"
Yes, I was thinking about adding a redirect rule but there was other things to fix and there are other redirect/rewrite rules already in the .htaccess file. I was afraid that I can break the system again before fixing all existing problems.
Now, I think it is necessary because there are "edit" and PayPal links in many confirmation emails sent last few days before the change.
Problems with the event cloning functionality was reported. Looking at this right now.
Thank you for your patience.
The old "a40" links should work now.
Event cloning is fixed as well.
I just signed up for an event. It went well, except I got three identical confirmation emails.
But -- fortunately -- only one entry.
Not uncommon EventReg behavior -- nor is receiving them days or weeks later.
VERY annoying for registrars, but otherwise harmless.
Is there any info / work around for why some people can’t pay on mobile? Other than telling them to use a laptop on their next attempt.
All online payment is through PayPal. I'd be very surprised if they won't accept mobile payment. Besides, isn't payment by phone linked to a credit / debit card?
Where were you told to use a laptop next time?
Every confirmation e-mail includes a payment page link/button, and -- unlike most event registration systems -- you don't have to pay immediately. The vast majority of registrants, however, do.
Our Facebook messages and email inbox has a greater than zero number of phrases along the lines of:
"FYI the PayPal link doesn’t work on mobile." (from within the last week for that one)
Not being the sort of modern individual who does everything on the smallest possible screen, I have not encountered it personally but those are the reports that come in. At some point someone figured out that they could try the link from some other device and it did work, so that has been my suggestion when people encounter it. Many people are successful, some aren't and I'm not sure why.
