Have you chosen which marathon? I'd say steady higher mileage for 8-10 weeks is a key ingredient. Hopefully weather will improve soon!

^If you can choose a later marathon, (maybe May?) then hopefully you can have two months of decent weather beforehand

I really want to do the Vernonia Marathon, because it sounds so lovely to have it almost entirely on a very gentle grade bike path in the forest... Date is April 14th.

The original plan was 15 mi long run by end of Dec, 18 mi long run by end of Jan, 21 mi long run by end of Feb, 24 by end of March. But illness and this snow storm have me pretty far off that progression atm...

Looks like a nice marathon, potentially fast with a net elevation drop. You have time to get ready. My thought was to focus more on gradually getting your weekly mileage up with one longer run a week, building up to 20 milers by mid-March.

Yeah, maybe I don't really need to do a 24 miler... if I increase 1 mi/week henceforward, get to 20 mi by mid-March, do think that will do!

Pretty sure if you’re feeling good at 20 miles you’ll be fine with that as your longest run, given your base! That marathon sounds lovely.
