How's the snowpack in the park? Ellen & I are headed there at the end of the month. Some of the webcams I've seen look pretty bare.

Not great. But there are still good opportunities to ski on trails “thin but skiable.” The last few days have brought a bit more snow. Temps have been warmer than normal.

Even with the lack of snow the park is fun.

We're going to be visiting via snowmobile out of West Yellowstone. Presumably the roads have a pretty solid packed snow for the coaches & such. When we did this in '95 we had about 60" average snowpack.

Have you been back since ‘95? Snowmobiling culture is very different now in Yellowstone. Our coach driver said it’s been a bad winter for West Yellowstone access, it just opened this week. Hope you have a great visit

We haven't been back in the winter since '95, but are well aware that things are drastically different. Back then we rented a sled & pulk and spent 3 days touring the park on our own - based out of the old Winter Lodge at Old Faithful. We'd do the park road, pull off somewhere and then snowshoe into the geyser basins.

This time around we are traveling with friends and doing a guided tour out of West Yellowstone - one day to Old Faithful, one day to Towers. Then a third day on our own in the NF west of the park.
