This race kicked off this am. Tracking can be found here:

Seems CP5 was removed.

I think it's still there, but the first few teams through chose to skip it. I got the sense from the pre-race media (and the live video at the start) that the race course is very long, and it is much more linear than usual - not many options for significantly cutting distance. I think that teams will be dropping even more points than usual.

Has anybody seen race maps posted anywhere or have a link to the race maps?

Race maps usually get published in the info section of the tracker page. Rules of travel are shown there currently.

According to the tracking maps, there's a narrow short cut channel that could be taken on the way to the TA. It may not really exist or exist on the racers' maps, though.

The way Rev3 is winging out to sea, they're going around the point (blue line of travel)

If you zoom in on the satellite map there's a motorboat using the short cut channel. Looks pretty legit.

Highpoint is taking the short cut, will they leapfrog Rev3?

The chase teams seem to generally be following Rev3/blue line of travel.
Feb 22, 2024 9:12 PM #
Wondering if Rev3 is heading for the wrong outlet. They’re half way past the correct one with no sign of turning north yet.
Feb 22, 2024 9:20 PM #
Oops. I was thinking that coastline would be hard to read from sea level.
Feb 22, 2024 9:21 PM #
There's kind of a parallel feature there and they picked wrong.
Feb 22, 2024 9:23 PM #
MRC looks to be on a trajectory to follow them.
Edit- Maybe not, they just angled north
Feb 22, 2024 9:23 PM #
Is Highpoint in the wrong channel? They need to be going east.
Feb 22, 2024 9:29 PM #
Rev3 and Highpoint are now both in the weeds. Lets see if someone can come from behind and nail it.
Feb 22, 2024 9:47 PM #
Not sure if this was planned but Highpoint is going straight to the TA (and skipping CP7) in a small tributary.
Feb 22, 2024 9:52 PM #
It looks like over half these teams will be trying to find their way to the correct outlet in the dark.
HP on their way to get cp7.

Highpoint going back for the CP (~3k out and back)
Feb 23, 2024 2:32 AM #
Doing a tricky paddle like that in Florida at night is my worst nightmare.
Feb 23, 2024 2:34 AM #
Looks like Highpoint, as expected, have opened up a pretty large lead. I think between the 4 of them they have 11+ Sea to Sea wins. MRC is not surprisingly biking really quickly and has come into 2nd. 3rd looks to be lizARd, who finished 2nd last year. Their navigator is (I believe) from Jacksonville.

I still have not seen any maps. Anyone had some luck yet?

RE: that short cut channel on the first paddle leg - I saw it in my planning and was considering it but by the time we got there the sun was setting and it was difficult to discern distances (the shore lines were grasses not trees and were closer than my perception)- the coast line was hard to read from sea level. I was concerned we would miss the opening and pass it only to have to return to the Gulf and enter at the wide opening.

It was a brutal paddle and we sided with precaution and got out of the Gulf with the sun just setting.

This was our first AR over 30hrs and it was a challenge. We were cutting off section on every leg just to stay in time.

Mostly a great time but I'm bummed we did not get to do the last section out on the barrier island. We had bike and time issues that would have made it a real hard push... which is not how we needed to end this.
