Do you know how many near dusk searches for misplaced kids John and I have conducted over tge last decade? They always show up, but there is a moment of panic. Our technic became considering “where is the best chance of them making a mistake on this trail run or o training?”Then as the kids warmed up I would high tail it out there and stand at a point of no return intersection and count kids as they came through making them stop and show me exactly where they were on the map, still they went astray. Once when searching and while on the phone with a trio that had gone over a hill and past a powerline in the wrong direction, but had the smarts to call; I was almost to them when I came around the corner and there was a bear. I can hear the kids on the back side of the bear, but they haven’t come around the curve and seen it yet. I yell in the phone “stop where you are wait!” And the bear takes off. Lol kids were fine, only I was nervous.

This is why we required all elementary to have an adult shadow at all practices. Hahaha
