i found it on one of those "decorative"/infrastructural boulders lining a paved trail that were more than likely brought there from a stonemason or whatever, and I just happened to see a bit of green on one and thought "haha what if that's malachite" (which is often a result of oxidation of chalkopyrite, since it contains copper), and it was, with some chalkopyrite in the middle of it. I'd say it was a lot more random than going to a locality known for the mineral or being in a general area with rocks that are often associated with those minerals.
